Androgyny Image

"They all look the same", when spoken in reference to those whose national origin is one of the many nations along the Pacific Rim, has been a staple of political incorrectness for many years. This phrase generally refers to the perceived lack of visual differentiation among citizens of many different countries. It has also been stretched to cover lack of gender differentiation in these same populations as well. This blunt and insular perception is played out in renderings of Asian nationals such as the one at left from a 1935 magazine cover in which the rosy and full lips, ruddy cheeks and demure eyes of this sailor serve to dissemble actual gender differentiation among Asian populations.
