Modern day spiritualists who diverge from standard religious practice or who have developed beliefs similar to those of the Rosicrucians, Alchemists or other occult type practices often incorporate ideas from the field of androgyny within their belief systems. Various centers have even used the word "androgyny" within their names to describe spiritual practices which deal with enlightenment, unification or awareness. One such contemporary manifestation is the Divine Andogyny Center in Big Indian, New York which has designed practices for men and women to achieve what is called "mutual surrendur". This surrendur (of traditional gender role in intimate relationships) leads to different and more intimate connection between couples than is possible through conventional male-female connection.
The wonderful poster dating from the 1970's at left is from a similarly styled occultist center.
